The movement of agricultural goods is, by sheer volume alone, remarkable. The way in which we consume has changed dramatically in a relatively short period of time - if one considers the first UK Supermarket was built in 1948; Now, the sheer quantity of until-recently-unimaginable foods that now adorn our shelves is a remarkable. This consumer culture- of course- comes at a price and, in many cases, some strange logistical decisions: 228,506 tons of onions leave Holland for the UK each year, while 9,333 tons go the other way (and this is between two of the closer nations in regards to the wider, trading world).
